USDA Institues Changes to LRP Insurance for 2021

WASHINGTON, DC – USDA recently announced changes to the Livestock Risk Protection (LRP) insurance program that are now in effect for crop year 2021. According to the Risk Management Agency (RMA), the changes include increasing livestock head limits for feeder and fed cattle to 6,000 per endorsement, or 12,000 annually. For swine producers, the limits are increased to 40,000 head per endorsement or 150,000 head per year. Additionally, the move by RMA will modify the requirement to own insured livestock until the last 60 days of the endorsement, will increase the endorsement length for swine to one year and will also allow for unborn feeder cattle and swine to be insured as well. Details are available online at Farmers.gov or through your local insurance provider.
