Unrest in Ukraine Contributes to Sunflower Oil Concerns

KANSAS CITY, MO – More uncertainty is clouding the future of one of the most produced and consumed vegetable oils in the world: sunflower oil.

With the ongoing war in Ukraine, the global leader in sunflower oil production and leading export country, combined with general market uncertainty is leading major buyers to consider alternatives.

According to the Economic Research Service (ERS), demand is now growing for palm, soybean, and canola oil.

Sunflower oil is one of the top four vegetable oils and is commonly found in salad dressing and supplies are expected to be tight for the remainder of this marketing year, contributing to elevated vegetable oil prices for consumers.
