United Nations Asking Member-Nations to Cut Subsidy Programs

NEW YORK CITY, NY – The United Nations came under fire quite often during the Trump Presidency, whether for their lack of support for Israel in the Security Council or because of perceived political alignments of the World Health Organization (WHO) during the outbreak of coronavirus in China.

For U.S. agriculture, the direction of the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has led to a rocky relationship no matter the political leanings of the current U.S. administration.

As an example, the FAO just recently released a report outlining how it believes government support payments in agriculture totaling $540 billion is leading to the exploitation of critical lands around the globe, and distortion of food prices all while providing for big business ahead of smaller farmers around the globe

The report aims at animal agriculture, now a common recipient of the attacks, for worsening the planetary crisis and ultimately harming the well-being of humans.

The U.N. calls on member countries to transition away from the payments and consider zero-payment farming or follow moves from countries in the European Union (EU) for a more climate-friendly approach to 21st-century farming and ranching.
