U.S. Food and Feed Supply Safe to Eat
WASHINGTON, DC – The National Grain and Feed Association (NCFA) reports that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued its annual Pesticide Residue Monitoring Program Report for Fiscal Year (FY) 2019 last week and says the U.S. food supply is safe to eat.
FDA tested for more than 800 pesticide and industrial chemicals across samples of human and animal food and found that the levels of residues are well below tolerances set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), consistent with the trend of low levels of pesticide residue violations found by FDA over the past eight years of testing.
Specifically, for human food, the FDA in tested more than 4,000 samples and found that 98.7 percent of the domestic (1,258 samples) and 89.1 percent of the imported samples (3,069) complied with federal pesticide residue standards.
For animal feed, FDA tested 365 samples and found that 98.4 percent of the domestic (127 samples) and 95.4 percent of the imported samples (238) complied.
