Texas Hits Record High Temperatures While COVID-19 Blazes
CACTUS, TX – One of the hottest spots in the nation’s fight against COVID-19 is the same place where the thermometer is hitting triple digits: the Texas Panhandle. JBS operates a packing plant in Cactus, an hour north of Amarillo, where the infection rate is nearly 17 out of every 1,000 people. Now a federal strike force is converging on the region in hopes of bringing the coronavirus under control. Just last week, President Trump signed an Executive Order keeping meatpacking plants open during the pandemic. The Cactus beef packing plant employs around 3,000 workers and has not had to close, like some others have, in the past six weeks. JBS is actively recruiting new workers by offering starting pay of $16.20 per hour with medical, dental and vision insurance, and 401k benefits as well. Owned by a Brazilian multinational, JBS is the largest cattle feeder in the world.
