Second Round of Tariff Relief Authorized for Farmers
(WASHINGTON, DC) Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue announced Monday the second round of Trade Mitigation Payments (MFP) for U.S. farmers and ranchers hurt by trade barriers and retaliatory tariffs from foreign governments. Introduced back in July, the payments were calculated using a USDA formula whereby producers of soybeans would receive $1.65 per bushel, sorghum 86¢ per bushel, wheat at 14¢ per bushel, cotton at 6¢ per pound and corn at 1¢ per bushel on total production for 2018. Producers should apply at their local Farm Service Agency office after harvest is complete and payments are subject to a combined $125,000 per person or legal entity.
