Record Imports Due to Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Demand
WASHINGTON, DC – There is always a focus on agricultural exports from the United States, but rarely much consideration for commodity imports. According to USDA’s quarterly Outlook for Agricultural Trade, the latest forecast is for a new record in 2020 as the trend for importing more ag products into the U.S. continues. The main reasons behind a potential record-breaking forecast are expected increases in imports for horticultural products, grains, and feed. Americans are expected to increase their appetite for foreign fresh fruits and vegetables – which are leading the trend. On the other side of the coin, the U.S. is expected to import less malted beer, livestock, dairy, and poultry products.
