Pork Exports Rebound in October, Still Trailing 2021
DENVER, CO – U.S. pork producers are enjoying one of the largest export increases in more than a year as October data recently released by USDA and compiled by the U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF) show a 5 percent year-over-year expansion in volume.
So far, year to date, pork exports, by volume, are still off 12 percent from the first ten months of 2021, and export values are down 8 percent.
Still, USMEF President and CEO Dan Halstrom noted the results were bolstered by outstanding growth in variety meat exports, which set a new value record ($126.2 million), and export volume, which hit the second largest mark on record (more than 55,000 metric tons).
In addition to the turnaround in pork, beef export volume increased in October over the same month in 2021.
