OMB Releases Funding for WHIP+, Checks Arriving Soon
LUBBOCK, TX – After touting a new program approved by Congress to help farmers and ranchers dealing with excessive moisture and drought, the Farm Service Agency (FSA) has been sitting in neutral without any funds to provide for those approved for losses in the Wildfire and Hurricane Indemnity Program Plus (WHIP+).
The delay in payments began as USDA ran the tank empty and had to wait on Congress to restock the piggy bank.
According to published reports, the Office of Management and Budget finally came through with notification of necessary funds to process the payments.
Senate Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee Chairman Sen. John Hoeven (R-ND), House Agriculture Committee Ranking member Rep. Mike Conaway (R-TX), have been working to ensure the program is funded to meet all of its current commitments (including the remaining 50 percent on 2019 losses, quality losses, etc.) to producers.
