OMB Concludes Review of Agricultural Trade Mitigation Payments

(WASHINGTON, DC) The White House’s Office of Management and Budget (OMB) has completed its review of the second tranche of relief payments in response to trade retaliation against U.S. agriculture. Known as the Market Facilitation Program (MFP), farmers and ranchers will receive direct payments based upon the production of qualifying crops/animals. The value of farmer payments and commodity purchases by the government have not been announced. Seven countries, however, have called out the United States at the World Trade Organization (WTO), asking for details of the program and assurances that the U.S. will not violate its terms of support.
