New Committee Leaders and Rosters Approved for Senate

WASHINGTON, DC – The Senate approved a measure on Wednesday to finally transfer leadership in their committees to Democrats. Normally this isn’t an issue after an election, but with an even 50-50 member split between parties, the deciding vote on the floor of the Senate will be Vice President Kamala Harris. So as the Democrats officially take control, they have also announced new members for the Agriculture Committee during the 117th Congress led by Sen. Debbie Stabenow (MI). Other members include Patrick Leahy (VT), Sherrod Brown (OH), Amy Klobuchar (MN), Michael Bennet (CO), Kirsten Gillibrand (NY), Tina Smith (MN), Dick Durbin (IL), Cory Booker (NJ), Ben Ray Luján (NM), and Raphael Warnock (GA).

On the Republican side John Boozman of Arkansas will serve as the Ranking Member. He will be joined by
Mitch McConnell (KY), John Hoeven (ND), Joni Ernst (IA), Cindy Hyde-Smith (MS), Roger Marshall (KS), Tommy Tuberville (AL), Chuck Grassley (IA), John Thune (SD), Deb Fischer (NE), and Mike Braun (IN).

Stabenow has said the Committee will build on past bipartisan achievements to strengthen the diversity of American agriculture, support the millions of jobs at the root of our farm and food economy, protect our land and water, strengthen small towns and rural communities, and support families working hard to make ends meet.

Other Senate committee leaders include Sherrod Brown (OH) for Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs; Bernie Sanders (VT) for Budget; Ron Wyden (OR) Finance; Patty Murray (WA) Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions; Maria Cantwell (WA) Commerce; Joe Manchin (WV) Energy and Natural Resources; and, Dick Durbin (IL) Judiciary Committee.
