Mango Industry Votes to Continue Federal Checkoff Program
WASHINGTON, DC – USDA announced this week that the mango industry has voted to continue their federal research and promotion program while removing the provisions of frozen mangos as a covered commodity. In the referendum, 60 percent of mango first handlers and importers voting were in favor of continuing the program. At the same time, 83 percent of the frozen importers voting were not in favor of continuing frozen mango as a covered commodity. Therefore, the mango program will continue without the frozen mango provisions. The mango research and promotion program was developed to strengthen the position of mangos in the marketplace, maintain and expand markets and to carry out programs, plans, and projects designed to provide maximum benefits to the mango industry within the United States.
