Larger Corn and Soybean Harvest Expected this Fall

WASHINGTON, DC – Corn and soybean production in the United States is expected to increase according to the latest Crop Production report issued Friday by the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS). Corn production is expected to be 8 percent higher this year over 2019 (14.7 billion bushels) while soybean growers are expected to increase their production 20 percent year over year (4.27 billion bushels). Based on conditions at the beginning of October, corn yields are expected to average 178.4 bushels per harvested acre, up 10.9 bushels from 2019. Soybean yields are expected to average 51.9 bushels per acre, up 4.5 bushels from last season. For cotton, NASS is expecting a crop of 17 million bales or 14 percent smaller than produced last year. Yields are expected to average 909 pounds per harvested acre, roughly a 10 percent increase from 2019 (an increase of 86 pounds).
