Lackluster Week for U.S. Crop Sales and Exports
WASHINGTON, DC – USDA’s Foreign Agriculture Service released their latest Weekly Export Sales Report on Thursday, outlining sales and exports for the final week of 2020.
Net sales of wheat (275,300 metric tons) were down 47 percent from the previous week, primarily to Taiwan, China, and Mexico. Exports of (418,700 MT) were down 4 percent from the previous week, but up 5 percent from the prior 4-week average primarily to the Philippines, Mexico, and China.
Sales of corn were down 22 percent from the previous week (748,900 MT) on purchases from Japan, Mexico, and China. Exports of more than one million metric tons were also down more than 20 percent week over week with shipments destined for China, Mexico, and Japan.
Sorghum sales hit a marketing year low despite a small purchase from China (29,700 MT. Exports. also to China, were down 47 percent from the previous week.
Net soybean sales also fell to a marketing-year low (37,000 MT), down 95 percent from the previous week. Purchases from China, Germany, and Spain were offset by reductions of more than three-quarters of a million metric tons. Exports of 1.8 million metric tons were down 24 percent primarily to China, Mexico, and Germany.
Cotton sales (153,100 RB) were down 47 percent from the previous week on small purchases from Pakistan, China, and Turkey. Exports were down about 2 percent from the previous week as well primarily to China, Pakistan, and Vietnam.
