How Much Does a Farmer Make? Beer & Bagels

WASHINGTON, DC – How much does the farmer make? According to the National Farmers Union (NFU), dairy producers receive less than half of the $3.69 you pay for a gallon of milk. Actually, they collect about $1.50 of the final sales price. Egg producers do quite a bit better by making $1.14 from that $1.99 carton of eggs (one dozen). Barley and hop producers also collect a portion of every six-pack of beer you buy, but only 5¢ from the $9.99 sales price. Finally, slow down on that bagel you’re eating. According to NFU, a wheat farmer will receive just 1¢ of the 84¢ you’ll pay for that.
