House Members Tackling Nutrition Assistance and Farm Crisis

(WASHINGTON, DC) The House Agriculture Committee continues it’s oversight work this week as two subcommittees look to determine how farm policy helps farmers in adverse conditions and how changes to the SNAP programs may affect households. Both hearings are slated for Thursday and the General Farm Commodities and Risk Management Subcommittee starts the ball rolling on farm policy as Chairman Filemon Vela (TX-34) and ranking member G.T. Thompson (PA-15) dig into the current farm crisis in rural America. The second hearing of the day is chaired by Rep. Marcia Fudge (OH-11) and will no doubt scrutinize the potential implications of eliminating broad-based categorical eligibility for users of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Fudge has been a vocal opponent of changes by USDA to the Food Nutrition Program.
