Hemp Growers Have Insurance Products Available in 2020
WASHINGTON, DC – Producers choosing to grow hemp in 2020 will have a couple of insurance programs available. According to USDA, a pilot hemp insurance program offered through Multi-Peril Crop Insurance (MPCI) will provide coverage against loss of yield because of insurable causes of loss for hemp grown for fiber, grain or cannabidiol (CBD) oil. As a second option, the Noninsured Crop Disaster Assistance Program (NAP) coverage protects against losses associated with lower yields, destroyed crops or prevented planting where no permanent federal crop insurance program is available. The deadline for both programs is March 16th. For more information go to www.Farmers.gov.
