Farmers Turning Pessimistic Regarding Current and Future Expectations
WEST LAFAYETTE, IN – Farmers in the U.S. appear to be losing optimism in the economy, as the latest Purdue University/CME Group Ag Economy Barometer dips to its lowest level since the early days of the pandemic.
The decline, according to Dr. Jim Mintert Director of the Center for Commercial Agriculture at Purdue, is the reaction of weaker perceptions of both current conditions in the agricultural economy as well as the expectations for the future.
Top concerns cited by farmers and ranchers surveyed during mid-March include the impact the Ukrainian war will have on input prices, the ongoing lack of availability for many inputs, and their inflated prices.
