Farmers On Their Feet More Than Other Occupations
WASHINGTON, DC – The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that in 2020, agricultural workers spent 78 percent of their workday standing (5.63 hours per day), well above the national average of 57 percent for all civilian workers. On average, American workers are on their feet for 4 hours and 15 minutes per workday.
Though well above average, farmers and ranchers are not at the top of the list.
Workers in food preparation spent 97.6 percent of the workday standing to perform job tasks, while workers in computer and mathematical occupations spent 87.1 percent of the workday sitting.
The report also found that occupations were workers are on their feet more than agriculture (which is sixth on the list) include building and grounds cleaning and maintenance (86 percent), production (82.2 percent), construction and extraction (81 percent), and installation, maintenance, and repair (80 percent).
