Equipment Manufacturers Say Taxpayers Footing U.S. Trade War

(MILWAUKEE, WI) Farmers and ranchers have been feeling the pressure from trade disputes, but new data released this week says American businesses paid a record $6.8 billion in July due to tariffs and extra import tariffs. The tariffs have now cost U.S. taxpayers $30 billion says Dennis Slater, President of the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM). The new data comes from Tariffs Hurt the Heartland, a coalition of more than 150 associations representing every sector of the U.S. economy. The data shows that tariffs paid in July are 62 percent more than one year ago (July 2018). The data does not include recent and upcoming tariff increases on nearly $300 billion in additional imports.
