Drought Conditions Continue to Deepen, No Relief Expected
AUSTIN, TX – The latest drought map for conditions as of December 15 shows improvement in the northern Panhandle and East Texas and degradation in Central and South Texas. Extreme or worse drought is now impacting 27 percent of the state, the largest area since June 2014.
The National Weather Service expects La NiƱa conditions, which bring warmer and drier than normal winters to Texas, to persist through March and contribute to drought expansion to every corner of Texas by the end of that time period. Much of the southern U.S. will be similarly impacted.
