Despite Record Chinese Purchases, U.S. Beef Exports Fall
DENVER, CO – Beef exports were fairly steady with last year in major Asian markets but trended lower overall according to recent data released by USDA. September beef exports were 6 percent lower than one year ago and valued at 9 percent less. Coming off record performances in August, exports to South Korea and Taiwan remained strong and exports set another new record in China.
However, COVID-19 related obstacles continued to negatively impact demand for U.S. beef in several key markets, especially Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. Through the first nine months of 2020, beef exports trailed last year’s pace by 8 percent in volume and 9 percent in value.
