Despite Recent Snow, State Slipping Deeper Into Drought

AUSTIN, TX – The latest drought map for conditions as of December 15 shows areas of both improvement and degradation from last week, but the area of Texas impacted by drought changed less than 1 percentage point. Seasonally cooler temperatures tend to slow drought degradation this time of year. Since October 1st, most of the state has received less than half of normal rainfall. Texas received an average of 1.88 inches of rainfall during October-November this year, making it the 11th driest such period since 1895. So far, December 2020 has remained dry for most of the state.
