Deadline Announced for New Disaster Assistance Program Applications
WASHINGTON, DC – Producers who are eligible for compensation under the expanded Wildfire and Hurricane Indemnity Program – Plus (WHIP+) for 2018 and 2019 losses have until October 30 to apply through their local Farm Service Agency (FSA) offices. The WHIP program compensates producers who have experienced losses due to hurricanes, floods, snowstorms, tornadoes, typhoons, volcanic activity, and wildfires occurring in calendar years 2018 and 2019. Back in March, drought and excessive moisture were added as eligible losses for the program leading to a name change from WHIP to WHIP+. To date, the FSA has received more than 133,000 applications and paid out almost $1.4 billion to cover approved losses. To assist producers in determining eligibility, FSA is launching a new tool that also provides information directly to FSA staff to streamline the process. USDA also expects to announce details of a signup to cover producers who experienced a quality loss from 2018 and 2019 due to natural disasters.
