Crop Tour Expecting Record Corn and Soybean Crops
CEDAR FALLS, IA – Scouts covered a big portion of the Midwest last week during the annual Pro Farmer Crop Tour and found that record corn and soybean crops could be in store for the upcoming 2020 harvest. The national estimates point to a 14.8 billion bushel corn crop and a 4.4 billion bushel soybean crop. If realized, both would be the largest in history but below the most recent USDA estimate from the first of August. Agrimoney though, suggests that the tour generally underestimates both crops but is more accurate forecasting corn than soybeans and even more accurate when forecasting production than yield. In the past, Pro Farmer results were within 2 percent of the USDA average while soybeans were within 3 percent.
