Consumer Price Index Showing Signs of Economic Improvement
WASHINGTON, DC – The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) increased 0.4 percent in February on a seasonally adjusted basis after rising 0.3 percent in January, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Over the past 12 months, the all items index increased nearly 2 percent led by gasoline, which continued to increase (+6.4 percent) in February and accounted for over half of the seasonally adjusted increase in the all items index. Electricity and natural gas also increased, while the food index rose slightly in February. The food index posted a 3.6 percent increase over the last year, while the energy index climbed 2.4 percent year-over-year.
