Congress to Consider True Bipartisan Issue Soon: Infrastructure
WASHINGTON, DC – Even in Congress where Democrats and Republicans continually seem to be at odds, Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) says there’s one issue all can rally behind: infrastructure. Speaking virtually to the American Bankers Association’s (ABA) Washington Summit this week, he praised bankers for their work on the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) and how it was the banking industry that figured out how to implement the program for the Small Business Administration (SBA). “They threw that PPP thing out there and said ‘figure it out,’ and guess who figured it out? It was the bankers.” Manchin also says that infrastructure is something both sides can support. “I’ve never seen a Senate member, Republican or Democrat, ever not have a problem with a road or bridge in their area or state” he described. “We all have infrastructure needs.”
