Cattle on Feed Slightly Higher Than Last February

(WASHINGTON, DC) More cattle were placed on feed in February according to the latest statistics released by the National Ag Statistics Service (NASS). In their monthly Cattle on Feed Report, NASS says cattle and calves on feed for the slaughter market in the United States totaled 11.8 million head on March 1st, a one percent year over year increase. Placements in feedlots during February totaled 1.86 million head, a two percent increase over 2018, and net placements were 1.79 million head. Marketings of fed cattle during February totaled 1.68 million head, a slight increase over last year while other instances of disappearance totaled 66,000 head for the month, a 16 percent increase from 2018.
