Battle Begins for House Agriculture Committee Leadership Roles
WASHINGTON, DC – Just days after election day in the United States, a handful of returning House members are jockeying for positions to lead the House Agriculture Committee. For Republicans, the retirement of Ranking Member Mike Conaway (TX) opened the door for three other committee members to throw their hats into the ring of leadership. Rep. GT Thompson (PA), Rep. Rick Crawford (AR), and Rep. Austin Scott (GA) are all interested in leading the GOP in the agriculture arena for the 117th Congressional Session. On the Democratic side, Rep. David Scott (GA), Rep. Marsha Fudge (OH), and Rep. Jim Costa (CA) are in the running for the Chairman’s gavel which becomes available after the current Chairman Collin Peterson (MN) lost in his reelection bid to Congress. Senate leadership will look slightly different beginning in 2021 as Dr. John Boozeman (AR) takes the reins from retiring Sen. Pat Roberts (KS). Democratic member and current ranking member Debbie Stabenow (MI) will continue holding the title of Ranking Member.
