AFBF President and Popular Meteorologist Addressing Climate Change
WASHINGTON, DC – The House Agriculture Committee will be one of the first in Congress to tee up President Biden’s commitment to addressing Climate Change with a dedicated hearing on Thursday. “Climate Change and the U.S. Agriculture and Forestry Sectors” will be the focus of the hybrid event (in-person and virtual) that will combine at least one well-known witness from agriculture and at least one well-known witness from cable television. Zippy Duvall is President of the American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) and a producer from Georgia while Jim Cantore is the Senior Meteorologist with The Weather Channel in Atlanta. Also joining in with testimony will be Pamela Knox, an agricultural climatologist and Director of the Weather Network (University of Georgia), Gabe Brown a farmer and rancher from Bismark, ND, and Michael Shellenberger President of Environmental Progress in Berkley, California. The hearing is expected to provide a background of climate change in general, how it has affected agriculture specifically, and what paths the ag industry might take in addressing the situation while also benefitting financially from well-known practices like conservation.
