No Surprises, USDA Says More Cattle on Feed
WASHINGTON, DC – On the same day that USDA delivered their semi-annual cattle inventory report, the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) explained that Cattle on Feed in the United States is slightly up from the same time last year.
Though the number of steers and steer calves were one percent below the 2021 count, the number of heifer and heifer calves increased by 3 percent.
As placements slipped, marketings increased, bringing the total on feed number in feedlots with the capacity of at least 1,000 head to 11.3 million head as of July 1, 2022.
