U.S. Agricultural Exports Rebound, California Tops the List

LAKELAND, FL – After roughly two years of breaking even in agricultural trade, U.S. agricultural exports are outpacing imports and are on pace to finish just behind the surplus recorded in 2017.

Currently, according to USDA, the U.S. has imported $92.2 billion while exporting almost $107 billion this fiscal year. Since all regions of the country contribute to total export output, trade is vitally important for almost every agricultural producer.

According to AgAmerica Lending, in 2019 the nation exported just under $124 billion with the Midwest accounting for the most at 39 percent, and the Northeast the least at 6 percent. On an individual basis, California alone exported 19 percent of the nationwide tally. The rest of the top five states include: Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, and Texas.
