More Than $6.2 Billion Approved for Coronavirus Assistance
WASHINGTON, DC – The Coronavirus Food Assistance Program provides vital financial assistance to producers of agricultural commodities, giving them the ability to absorb sales losses and increased marketing costs associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.
As of Monday July 20, USDA has approved more than $6.2 billion in assistance on almost 443-thousand applications, for an average of $14,073.46 per applicant.
Iowa is the top recipient with more than $652 million in payments averaging $15,821 per producer. Nebraska ranks second in total funds received, but with a slightly higher average ($17,824). Approved applicants in Minnesota have collected an average of $16,608 but overall are ranks third by state totals. Wisconsin is ranking fourth overall, but near the top in average per application – almost $26,500 per producer. Texas is fifth, by state totals, but well below the national average with less than $12,000 per approval ($11,995). Though California is sixth by state, producers there are averaging payments in excess of $65,000 per operation.
The top five commodities nationwide include cattle, milk, corn, hogs, and soybeans.
