Transportation Department Releases Revised Hours of Service Rules

WASHINGTON, DC – For the past few years, the livestock industry has been working for new hours of service (HOS) rules for agricultural truckers. Last Thursday, that effort paid off as the Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration announced new rules. According to the National Pork Producers Council (NPPC), the final rule includes lengthening short-haul maximum workdays from 12 to 14 hours. Also, the newly published rule extends the distance limit from 100 air miles to 150 miles. The agency’s final rule will be implemented 120 days after publication in the Federal Register.
