116th Congress Eyes Finish Line, Huge Workload Ahead

MIDLAND, TX – As the nation continues to battle the coronavirus and resulting lockdown of the economy, there’s only a handful of months remaining in the 116th Congress. Rep. Mike Conaway (TX-11) is Ranking Member of the House Agriculture Committee and is retiring at the end of this session. He says in addition to the work that will need to be done on more coronavirus relief for the economy, they still need to pass appropriations bills. Then in July when another $14 billion is available to USDA, Conaway says the Ag Committee will be in a better place to help Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue deploy the resources where they’re needed. Still, the Texas accountant and CPA says, the most important and pressing issue facing the country right now is how to get back to work. He doesn’t say there will be another round of relief for the economy, but if there is, rural communities and small businesses will have a voice.
