AccuWeather Predicts Good Growing Season, Record Corn Harvest

STATE COLLEGE, PA – While the industry awaits the latest projections for crop plantings in 2020, AccuWeather still foresees a record-setting corn crop, a significant year-over-year increase in soybean production and cotton production that could be the best in a decade. AccuWeather is predicting U.S. corn production will reach 15.5 billion bushels, based on 178 bushels per acre harvested from 87 million acres. The previous record of 15.15 billion bushels was set in 2016. Domestic soybean production will see a strong comeback, with production estimated to be 4.3 billion bushels, based on a 51 bushel per acre harvest from 83.5 million acres. Finally, for cotton, AccuWeather predicts the highest output in a decade: 19.85 million bales from just under 11 million acres and yields of just less than two bales per acre. The forecasted warmer spring and summer weather also should be beneficial for wheat production.
