Weekly Sorghum Export Sales Remain Strong, Basis Strengthening
LUBBOCK, TX – Sorghum export sales commitments were strong again this week with China, Japan, and Mexico committing to purchase 4.2 million bushels. This brings total commitments for the marketing year to 97 million bushels or 72 percent of the USDA export target. Shipments for the week totaled 1.1 million bushels, so actual delivery continues to lag purchases somewhat. Given these volumes, basis has strengthened considerably across the Sorghum Belt, including in historically weak basis areas of the High Plains according to the National Sorghum Producers (NSP).
