Bipartisan Bill Could Provide Interest-Free Veterinary Student Loans
WASHINGTON, DC – Two Congressional veterinarians have introduced the bipartisan Veterinary Education & Training Minimizes Educational Debt Act (HR 6134). The bill would help address the challenge of high debt and ensure that the United States has enough highly-trained veterinarians for the future. According to the legislation co-sponsored by Representatives Kurt Schrader (OR-D) and Ted Yoho (FL-R), veterinary students serving in internship or residency programs would be eligible for an interest-free deferment on their student loans during their residency. The bill is being promoted by the American Veterinary Medical Association.
