Trump Looking for Hat Trick at AFBF Convention
AUSTIN, TX – For the third consecutive year, President Trump will address farmers and ranchers at the Annual American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) Convention and IDEAg Trade Show in Texas. Trump became the first sitting president since George H.W. Bush in the 1990s to speak to the largest general farm organization in the United States two years ago and will be making his third appearance to the convention. One year ago in New Orleans, Trump was dealing with a government shutdown, irritation from farm groups from trade disruptions, and concern from the corn industry and ethanol groups regarding attacks on the Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS). This year, Trump will arrive days after signing a Phase One trade agreement with China which is expected to boost U.S. ag exports to that country by nearly three times the level in 2019. The President will also be arriving as the Senate begins preparations for an impeachment trial later this month. Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue is also expected to join Mr. Trump, as are other leaders within USDA.
