Latest on U.S.-China Trade War; Nothing New
WASHINGTON, DC – Will the U.S. and China really sit down and sign a Phase One agreement in their ongoing trade war? The Chinese are reported as saying no, not unless President Trump rolls back tariffs. One Chinese Commerce Ministry spokesman said the war began with tariffs and needs to end with the cancellation of the tariffs. Trump, on Friday, said he has not agreed to do so but didn’t close the door on a partial rollback of the penalties assessed to China’s exports to the United States. Both sides agreed that they had reached a consensus on about 90 percent of their disagreements last month but would need time to get the concessions on paper in both languages. Trump told reporters that he still expects to sign a partial agreement with Chinese Leader Xi Xianpang soon, somewhere in the Heartland among farmers and ranchers.
