U.S. and Australia Celebrate Partnership at White House

(WASHINGTON, DC) As President Trump was welcoming Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison to a White House state dinner, the topic of trade with China remained the top issue for both leaders. The two leaders spent a good portion of Friday talking about the relationship between their countries and the importance of having the United States in the Indo-Pacific region. However, reporters questioned both men about the trade war with China and what the future holds. Trump said he believes the Chinese want to make a deal because their economy is beginning to suffer. Morrison, meanwhile, expressed his interest in both sides to find common ground. At the end of the day, the fact that deputy trade negotiators from the warring countries resumed face-to-face talks for the first time in almost two months this week. “What we need is to correct the big imbalances, not just the current trade deficit. It’s more complicated than just buying a few more soybeans,” said U.S. Commerce Secretary, Wilbur Ross. Fox Business News also reported that the Chinese delegation will stay in the United States to visit U.S. farming regions next week, in a very unexpected twist. The trade war is now more than one year old.
