China Top Destination for U.S. Sorghum and Soybeans
(WASHINGTON, DC) In spite of an ongoing trade war with China, U.S. farmers and ranchers continue to benefit from trade with the world’s largest economy. According to data released last week from USDA’s Foreign Ag Service (FSA), China was the top importer of U.S. sorghum and soybeans. In addition, the Chinese accepted shipments of pork from the United States. Though no longer in a trade disagreement with the Trump administration, Mexico was the top importer last week for wheat, corn, and pork – while also buying sorghum, soybeans, and beef. Canada was a small buyer of beef and pork. Trade negotiations continue with Japan, another key market for U.S. agriculture. Last week the Japanese took delivery of wheat, corn, beef (the top customer) and pork from the U.S., even as other countries have lower prices due to tariffs wiped off by trade deals.
