Trump Tweets Positive Message Regarding Chinese Trade Impasse

(WASHINGTON, DC) Next week the leaders of China and the United States are expected to meet during a G20 meeting in Japan. On Tuesday morning though, President Donald Trump announced that he and President Xi Jinping shared a phone call and now will have an extended meeting. At issue is a trade war of epic proportions that is hitting not only the two countries economies but also adding pressure to the global economic uncertainty. Trump says he uses tariffs and the threat of tariffs as bargaining chips in negotiations. With China, the U.S. President says without the tariffs, “we wouldn’t be able to speak to China” regarding currency manipulation, forced technology transfers, theft of intellectual property and unfair trade practices – including flagrant disregard for World Trade Organization (WTO) rules. Both countries have been engaging tariffs on top products with the Chinese targeting U.S. agricultural goods. In the interim, negotiators from both sides will continue to meet looking for a path to resolve differences on both sides of the Pacific Ocean.
