Chinese Trade Dispute Talks Continue; Agreement Within Sight

(WASHINGTON, DC) An end appears to be in sight to the almost year-long trade dispute between the United States and China. Between comments made on Wednesday by U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and on Thursday morning by Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue, recent talks have been very productive and the two sides appear to have an agreement on establishing new “enforcement offices”. This would provide a mechanism to police any trade agreement they reach. Additional talks are expected to continue through the end of the week and the sides are working to find common ground on six main areas: forced technology transfer and cyber theft, intellectual property rights, services, currency, agriculture, and non-tariff barriers.
