U.S. Ethanol Exports Set Volume and Value Records

(WASHINGTON, DC) U.S. ethanol exports achieved a new record in 2018 as 1.7 billion gallons of ethanol were shipped to more than 80 countries around the world. According to government figures released today, last years total exceeded the previous record set in 2017 by 25 percent. Another way to look at 2018 ethanol exports: about one in every ten gallons produced domestically was exported last year. The top destination for U.S. ethanol was Brazil, taking 30 percent of all exports. Canada was the second-leading market, followed by India. Together, the top three countries accounted for 60 percent of all U.S. ethanol exports. The value of U.S. ethanol exports was $2.7 billion, a 14 percent increase from the previous year and the highest on record. Ethanol imports remained scarce in 2018 as nearly all of the imported product was used to meet California’s Low Carbon Fuel Standard requirements.
