Strong U.S. Meat Exports Benefit Corn Growers
(DENVER, CO) Corn producers continue to benefit from strong meat exports in 2018. According to research from World Perspectives, Inc., exports of U.S. beef and pork have increased demand of corn and dried distillers grains (DDGS) by 29 percent or nearly 460 million bushels of grain in the past three years. Since 2015, beef and pork exports have increased feed demand for corn by 20 percent. About 11 percent of the price of corn this year will be derived from red meat exports or an average of 39 cents per bushel (based on the annual average price of $3.53 per bushel). Finally, if exports of U.S. red meat were to disappear there would be a loss of $5.7 billion in corn value.
