U.S. Energy Independent for First Time in 75 Years
(WASHINGTON, DC) For the first time in nearly 75 years, the United States is energy independent. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), weekly exports of crude and petroleum were more than 200 thousand barrels per day greater than the imports. The news comes as the International Energy Agency announced that the U.S. will become the world’s biggest contributor, accounting for 75 percent of global oil production in the next 20 years. The shale revolution has propelled the U.S. past both Russia and Saudi Arabia in petroleum production.
