2020 U.S. Pork Exports Continue Record-Setting Pace

DENVER, CO – November was a strong month for U.S. pork exports, according to data released by USDA and compiled by the U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF), as totals have already surpassed the full-year volume and value records set in 2019.

November pork export volume was steady year-over-year at 259-thousand metric tons (mt), with value down 2 percent to $697 million. Although China/Hong Kong remained the largest destination for U.S. pork in November, momentum continued to build in other markets including Japan, Mexico, and Central America.

Year to date pork exports set new annual records for both volume (up 14 percent) and value (up 13 percent). Pork muscle cut exports also shattered previous annual records, increasing 18 percent year-over-year to 2.29 million mt, valued at $6 billion (up 15 percent).

Led by strong variety meat demand in Mexico, U.S. lamb exports almost reached 13-hundred metric tons in November, up 4 percent from a year ago, while values fell 32 percent ($1.5 million. Year to date lamb exports is following the same trend, up 29 percent in volume but down 8 percent in value.
