2020 Dietary Guidelines Committee Preparing Final Advisory Report
WASHINGTON, DC – Last week, the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee (DGAC) held its Draft Advisory Report Meeting to review draft conclusion statements and discuss the Committee’s overall deliberations and decisions regarding the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. The committee will now finalize their advisory report based on the discussion during the meeting and is expected to submit a finalized report to the secretaries of USDA and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) by mid-July. Every 5 years, HHS and USDA publish the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, which is designed to help Americans eat a healthier diet and is also intended for policymakers and health professionals in outlining how people can improve their overall eating patterns. This action officially concludes the committee’s work and marks the start of the final leg of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGA) development process. Both USDA and HHS will seek public input on the final DGAC report as they develop the new dietary guidelines.
